FORMER COUNCIL OF GRENADE

Text: Juan Manuel García González
It is located on Mesones street , in the heart of Granada, where today the Land Registry Office is located.
The first thing to highlight is undoubtedly the history of the building , being in its origins a Muslim Mosque , after which and taking advantage of its foundations, a hermitage would be built and later a parish ( Iglesia de La Magdalena , 1510-1520). With the confiscation of Mendizabal it became a fabric store "La Magdalena", whose owners did not modify absolutely anything of the structure and customers literally entered a church to buy their fabrics. Next came the owners of some shopping centers and they chose to locate their Granada branch in that place, the Woolworth department store , which did use excavating shovels, imagining their horrible results (finding infant bone remains) and building the concrete monstrosity which we remember with the old Provincial Council . At present we find a completely aesthetically renovated building which houses the Management Territorial of the Catrasto .
We have always found testimonies from people who have passed through that place as workers, officials, jury guards or even visitors reporting exactly the same ... feeling of not being alone and being constantly watched, movement of objects , doors slamming , filing cabinets open and close by themselves , the elevator of the building goes up and above all it always goes down alone to the basement , sudden drops of temperature , ...

In 1986 a research group (Grupo Omega) was authorized to stay three nights inside the building to carry out different experiments, and their results were astonishing, obtaining among other things the robot portrait of a supposed apparition they obtained, the bite of a "child of about 5 years" in an arm or one of the most shocking psychophonies that are preserved in the field of parapsychology, said by the teachers Germán de Argumosa or Fernando Jiménez del Oso and that supposedly says: "A company ... in my camera, I am a lady ... you will regret it ".

JURY CORTIJO in MÁLAGA
Majestic on a hill rise the ruins of the Cortijo Jurado located in the Malaga district of Campanillas . What once housed the lives of two one of the wealthiest families in Malaga, today it is part of a mysterious canvas.
Little is known about the exact year of its construction, the documents that could attest to it disappeared devoured by the insatiable passage of time. Popular memory tells us that it was built between 1830 and 1840 by one of the wealthiest families in Malaga, the Heredias .
Due to economic pressure, in 1925 they were forced to sell the hacienda to the Larios , another of the great families of Malaga.
After the Larios, the Quesada family arrived and in 1952 a doctor from Valladolid, who thanks to his good economic position was able to become part of the history of this farmhouse, although he never inhabited it.
The last tenants of this hamlet were the Vega Jurado family , who acquired it in 1975 and where the name by which it is so well known comes from. In 2000 it was acquired with the intention of turning it into a luxury hotel, project that was forgotten and that provided new legends to the Cortijo Jurado.
The legend begins after the death of the patriarch of the Heredia family. With the new heirs of the estate, young girls began to disappear in the surroundings between the years 1890 and 1920; these were assassinated after suffering supposed vexations and rituals of a satanic nature. Some of the bodies of the young women were later found next to the banks of the Campanillas river, not far from the farmhouse.

The eyes focused on the Heredia family, the one who was supposed to have imported satanic practices because of the friendships they maintained in France and England. It was suspected that the victims had been transported through secret tunnels and that in the basements of the farmhouse there would be torture machines , perhaps used in the past by the inquisition.
The origin of the legend is found in some of the farm workers themselves and later in Manuel Martín; a young man who in 1942 and as an act of courage in front of his friends, entered one of the already abandoned passageways. The farmhouse was inhabited seasonally at that time; It was already burdened with dark legends that had emerged from those who worked in it.
According to the young man, after his furtive incursion, he came to find a room with torture machines and scattered bones. For fear of being discovered he left everything in its place and ran away in a never felt panic; it was a moment that has always frozen his blood when he remembered it. This boy has maintained the same testimony despite the years, according to the neighbors and researchers who have known him.
At that time, no one believed the 18-year-old and they thought that he had been a victim of the black legend of the farmhouse; a young man suggested by the dark stories of the place that were told.
It is a reality that the building has basements and passageways that possibly connect with the nearby Cortijo de Colmenares; current Guadalhorce Golf Club and former residence of the Larios built in the 18th century.
This place witnessed shootings during the Civil War. Not many know that he housed a hospital and a prison in his basement.
As if that were not enough, we must add to the legend the number of paranormal events that have happened there. There are countless recordings in which voices can be heard without a specific origin. On many occasions these voices with crystalline clarity seem to want to communicate with whoever is there.
There are testimonies that indicate having seen a figure materialize in the courtyard, a place where, according to the same voices, bodies are buried several meters below the ground.
There is no shortage of people who say they have witnessed a figure leaning out from one of the towers of the village.
PALACE of the FORGOTTEN of GRENADE

Text: Juan Manuel García González
In the historic city of Granada we find the Palace of the Forgotten, located on the Santa Inés slope, in the lower Albaicín, the neighborhood with the greatest history and charm of Granada, which was declared a World Heritage Site in 1984. The magic of Its streets, in which time seems to have stopped, still retain the air of a mixture of cultures, Arab, Sephardic and Christian. Among those streets, narrow and steeped in history, is the Palace of the Forgotten, an old palatial house from the 16th century located on the banks of the Darro River, at the foot of the Alhambra, which will take us to another era.
The remarkable double-bodied Mannerist portal of this palatial house offers a beautiful perspective from the bottom of the slope as it is advanced over the rest of the building. Its lower body is made up of a lintel span framed by Tuscan pilasters and entablature, while in the upper body there is a wrought iron balcony flanked by pinnacles of Escurialense tradition on blazons; the top of the façade is formed by the split curved pediment that houses a noble coat of arms, which suggests that it belonged to a convert subjected to a blood cleansing process.
Currently the house is used as a museum, which houses different exhibitions, highlighting the permanent exhibition “Inquisition. Ancient instruments of torture ”where we can contemplate and especially feel in first person the creepy instruments used by the Holy Inquisition and the Civil Institutions to make heretics and other prisoners confess. An exhibition that will certainly not leave you indifferent.

Numerous paranormal phenomena are present in front of the workers themselves and even visitors through its corridors and rooms where the feeling of cold, or that of not being alone is repeated especially in some of the rooms. some visitors have even left terrified claiming to see the figure of a man in period dress, with a very pronounced tunic and beard. Movement of objects or even falling of pictures belonging to the exhibition, together with slamming doors, inexplicable images recorded by security cameras make the palace a truly magical place.
Perhaps it is that Jewish family that inhabited said palace which were converted to Christianity against their will and refuse to be "forgotten" ...?
Factory of AZÚCAR de SAN JOAQUÍN in NERJA / MARO (MÁLAGA)
In the same municipality of Maro, in the so-called payment of the Mercedes or Tetuán, is the San Joaquín or de las Mercedes factory , the latter name that pays tribute to the promoter's wife, Joaquín Pérez del Pulgar y Ruiz de Molina, to whom the lands belonged. The project was quite ambitious and was able to benefit from the benefits that the law granted to the agricultural colonies in accordance with the resolution September 30, 1879, although two years later the colony was expanded, which ended up integrating extensive areas to both. side of the Maro ravine that supplied sugar cane to the mill. The factory, which in addition to sugar distilled alcohols, could be completed around 1884, and included some 24 houses for the workers in addition to the owner's landscaped residence, calling the complex Colonia Agrícola de las Mercedes y Maro. Being isolation one of the drawbacks of its location, the regulations that authorized it determined that through its only communication with Burriana beach, it would be supplied with bricks, wood, iron, cement, carts and as many tools and materials as necessary. for its construction.
The San Joaquín sugar mill has a magnificent complement in the Aguila aqueduct , which, crossing the Maro ravine, supplied water captured from an aquifer in the Sierra de Almijara one kilometer away.

TREASURE CAVE from RINCÓN DE LA VICTORIA (MÁLAGA)

Text: The country
Juan Manuel Garcia Gonzalez
An ancient legend speaks of the existence of a hidden treasure in the Cueva del Higuerón or del Tesoro, just 15 kilometers from the capital of Malaga, in the municipality of Rincón de la Victoria. This legend refers to the treasure of the five kings of the Almoravid dynasty , whose last president, Tesufín ibn Alí, would have died in the Plaza de Orán in 1145, at the hands of the Almohads, after embarking the royal treasure bound for Al Ándalus.
Traces of this treasure were lost and it was Fray Agustín de Milla y Suazo, a native of Oran, who in the 17th century collected the legend in his manuscript entitled Ecclesiastical and secular history of Malaga and its bishopric, in which he designates the Cueva del Higuerón as the place of burial of the treasure. This story was later collected in Malagueñas Conversations, published in 1789 by Cristóbal Medina Conde with all the elements of a legend, in which the giant and the dragon are not missing. According to this author, a group made up of 17 men of recognized value entered the cave to search for the famous treasure, and came out terrified, convinced that they had seen "the figure of an extraordinary animal and footprints like bare feet, which occupied more space than the width and length of two feet of ours. "
Later, in the first half of the 19th century, the Swiss Antonio de la Nari spent several years searching for the treasure. From then on, the cave was renamed "del Suizo". De la Nari used gunpowder to open new galleries and was the discoverer of a part of the cave that had been blocked and hidden for centuries. The Swiss died in 1847 a victim of one of his explosions in the cave.

Already in the 20th century, the Malaga researcher Manuel Laza Palacio (1909-1988) dedicated 38 years of his life since 1952, the date on which he rediscovered the cave, to the study of the cave and the search for the treasure, whose existence he never doubted after finding in the fifties a "treasure" made up of six 12th century gold dinars and the remains of ceramics and utensils from the time.
Legends aside, the Cueva del Higuerón is itself a natural treasure. It is one of the three caves of marine origin that are known in the world and the only one of its kind in Europe. The other two are in Asia and Central America. Its formation, thanks to the action of the Mediterranean, is situated around the Jurassic period and has great scientific, historical and cultural interest. It has found remains of cave painting related to the paintings of red signs in the Cueva de la Pileta de Benaoján (Málaga), as well as numerous ceramic vessels, pieces of flint, two complete skulls and animal remains.
Among its cavities, the Noctiluca room stands out, so named because it is located in it the temple dedicated to the Mediterranean lunar goddess Noctiluca. At his feet there is an altar in which remains of the ashes of animals sacrificed in his honor were found.
The largest and most humid room in the entire cave is that of the Lakes, where we can find characteristic formations such as eccentric stalactites, thanks to the fresh water seepage through the stone, in addition to three lakes. From it you can access the Virgin's room, which is one of the largest and most spacious of all those visited.
From here we go to the room of Marco Crassus, which takes the name of a Roman tribune who hid in it. At the end of the route, you will reach the Eagle Room, in which there is a stone formation reminiscent of an eagle, or a similar bird of prey, in the act of diving off a cliff.
Presences, noises of footsteps, shadows , ... shake hands daily and are present in front of both the Cave workers and the visitors themselves. Several people claim to have encountered a man with a long beard, old clothes in a specific area, going down some stairs or even on one side observing ... it could be the figure of the "Swiss" who continues to wander through this cave .. . never best shower totally magical ...?

CRYPT of the GÁLVEZ in MACHARAVIAYA (MALAGA)
An unfulfilled promise seems to have become a curse that hangs over the pantheon of the noble Gálvez family, in the Malaga town of Macharaviaya .
Appearances of period characters before terrified witnesses, psychophonies, mysterious photographs and a hidden treasure are the ingredients of a story in which mystery and legend come together. hand.
As if it were a strange curse, in a corner of the Gálvez mausoleum we find an old 18th century plaque that reads the following: «This pantheon, its altar, glasses, ornaments and utensils were paid by Messrs. D. Matías, D. José, D. Miguel, D. Antonio and D. Bernardo de Gálvez for the perpetual and exclusive rest of their bones, those of their wives, children, heirs and successors, which must be moved clean and placed in the respective niches; and they endowed a perpetual anniversary on the day after the commemoration of the deceased, and a low mass on every Friday of the year, for the souls of the children of their family.
In exchange for the residents of Macharaviaya fulfilling this promise, the Gálvezes donated a significant amount of money to the town that barely lasted a decade.
Later, the plaque fell into the most absolute of oblivion, as did the anniversaries and masses in honor of the wealthy family as some locals attribute the apparitions and inexplicable events that take place in the town to a vengeance of the spirits of the Gálvez for the broken promise.
In fact, paranormal phenomena always occur in the area where the San Agustín church, its cemetery and the Gálvez mausoleum are located, a mythical corner located in the main square of the charming Malaga town of Macharaviaya.

Mystery Channel

One afternoon in 1994 two workers were tidying up the imposing pantheon as much as possible and suddenly, they saw out of the corner of their eyes several people who were walking slowly through the altar area, a few meters from them and when they looked up they were petrified : a series of characters dressed in ancient clothes paraded before his eyes.
They seemed real beings, of flesh and blood, but shortly after they disappeared through one of the monumental walls and after that both workers left there like a soul carried by the devil, vowing never to return for that town.
Since then numerous locals have witnessed paranormal phenomena. These are not simple legends, but real testimonies, with names and surnames.
Many onlookers who came to the mausoleum claim to have felt presences, in addition to hearing noises of unknown origin, the recording of dozens of high quality psychophonies, which show words in old Spanish, and the capture of photographs with strange lights.
In the church of San Agustín we can discover a soulless tombstone «anchored» in the wall because if we look at the engraved name we will verify that it is a woman: María López Escaño de Cabrera, born on October 20, 1901 and died on October 5 December 1920.
According to the inhabitants of the town, for almost a century, many have been able to perceive the spectral presence of a young woman dressed as a bride prowling inside the church.
They usually see her crying inconsolably and she always disappears around the area of the altar steps as they count, and so she also prays on the tombstone, that she died on her wedding day on those steps, suddenly, before saying "yes, I want to. ».
María López Escaño fell struck down on the steps of the church at the time of their marriage due to a terrible intestinal hemorrhage. The town doctor gave her up for dead, however the young woman came back to life shortly after, and remained in a vegetative state for three days, until she finally died.
This dramatic event motivated the poet Salvador Rueda to write a poem that appears on his tombstone and a lady who had always lived in Macharaviaya said that the girl died in her bed with her wedding dress on, as her parents expected her to recover and get married.
However, those clothes became the shroud with which she was buried in the town cemetery. Years later, the tombstone was transferred to the church of San Agustín.
But there is an enigma that brings historians to their head: if this noble family amassed a huge fortune while still alive, where did that money go when all its members died suddenly? There has always been a legend in Macharaviaya about a treasure hidden inside the parish church, even marked with a cross on the ground.
Curiously, the Church of San Jacinto was reformed a few years before the Gálvez brothers died, at the end of the 18th century. Was it then that the treasure was hidden within its walls?
Some researchers have obtained various strange photographs in the places of Macharaviaya where the disconcerting phenomena and numerous psychophonic results such as the one we attach have been happening, where to the question of whether she is angry with us, the answer is clear: "I am".

GRAVEYARD by SAYALONGA (MALAGA)

It must be said that this small cemetery is one of the most original thanks to its octagonal shape, although it is popularly known as the 'round cemetery'. Its vaulted niches, superimposed as if they were a white honeycomb, are also part of the uniqueness of this enclosure built during the 19th century.
The interior of the only round cemetery in Spain hid a veritable labyrinth of Freemasonry symbols, full of "columns", "truncated pyramids" or "three-step figures"
The historian Valentín Fernández fixes the year of construction of the round cemetery in 1840 and attributes to Pedro Gordillo, architect of the Cathedral of Malaga, the possibility of designing it: "He was probably a Mason." In the "search" for elements "that are typical of Freemasonry" he has found "columns", linked to wisdom, strength and beauty; "Triangles", used to represent wisdom, perfection and harmony; "Three steps", as the path of perfection to be followed by the Mason; or "truncated pyramids", where "the elevation of human thoughts" is made known.
Fernández has also located "the sun", together with the "solstices" which are "vital moments for the Masons." Among the investigations that the Sayalonga City Council has begun to account for, another trace also appears: the founding in 1920 of the «La Iniciación Society».

For a few years now, it has had an interpretation center where it tries to explain the reason for its shape, as well as its origins. According to a popular belief, the design of this cemetery is justified in the custom of not burying the deceased with their backs turned, although today several niches can be seen in the center. Many have wanted to see a parallel between the octagonal shape of the tower of the church of Santa Catalina and the cemetery itself, although this thesis has not yet been proven. Currently, it is one of the most frequented settings in the Axarquía region.
One of the most terrifying stories is that of the enigma of the gypsy boy, who appears after his death on the walls of the cemetery. The story goes back some 40 years ago, when a gypsy boy appeared in the village, without anyone being able to explain how and from where. The neighbors welcomed him and took care of him in their homes until one day he was hit by a car and was buried in the round cemetery of Sayalonga in an unidentified place, although known to all the neighbors. From there it is where some inhabitants of the municipality have seen a whitish figure emerge that ascends the wall of the cemetery, wanders along the adjoining street and returns to its grave.
